  1. After reading most comments here: It`s the same as always with linux stuff. It`s free, but instead you spend your half life to maintain and configure it.

  2. Wish Wyze would work! I know I can use homebridge but I can’t do automations. If someone knows how to, please send me a link. Thank you!

  3. Somehow I’ve got 2 laptops and 2 computers, 1 with chrome flex, 1 without os, 1 without a hard-drive and a laptop with kali linux. So balena etcher wont work on chrome os, and I’ve tried to install it on Kali yesterday but keep getting errors. Very frustrating 😂

  4. My only device which has cloud connectivity is my RoboRock vacuum because hours of trying to flash it with Valetudo failed

  5. I’m a software developer and tech savvy, but home assistant is far too complicated for what it should be. If someone tried to start with this I can definitely see them getting fed up and throwing the whole idea in the trash. I’d still start with one do the basic systems. You can do a lot with the automations there, and it’s probably as much as most families need. Try to get too complicated with the automations and something like HA does become a big help.

  6. IMO the #1 benefit of "Local control" is SPEED. Everything consistently works with ZERO LAG. That’s super important for almost every use case.

The whole "it still works if internet goes down" is nice, but that’s #2 to me. The reality is, when people’s internet goes down, they’re pretty much f***ed in a thousand different ways, so most people in that scenario are thinking "GODDAMNIT THE INTERNET IS DOWN! NO NETFLIX OR PORNHUB!!! NO!!!!!" Those thoughts are 100x louder than "Oh cool, HA still works"

  7. Just post your passwords online so they can harvest more data, its insane how much you’re just giving away to strangers.

  8. I would consider Home Assistant the best smart home system for people who are tech savvy and willing to put in the time to configure it. For people who aren’t tech savvy, it is definitely not the best smart home system.

  9. The only problem is almost no one knows how to get it to work or stay working. So there’s that.

  10. From experience, home assistant sucks constantly breaks and automation’s don’t run moving to hubitat soon!

  11. Does anyone know what protocols work on home assistant? Zigbee? z wave? Sub 1g? Matter? Thread? 2.4wifi? I hate that i need so many damn hubs and i dont like the need for wifi to be used as a way for smart devices to communicate.

  12. I wish you would build a class for HA so I don’t have to scroll through all of your videos. I’d buy it.

  13. you came to the bright side, I know you had/have smartthings before. HA is ultimate answer to all issues

  14. Would love to see you work with a cyber security youtuber on a collab to see how hackable your smart home is. See how much they can take over and how fast

  15. Not a tech savvy person, and every time I think about getting into HA, a few videos in I end up lost and confused and decide not to.

  16. Not a tech savvy person, and every time I think about getting into HA, a few videos in I end up lost, confused, and overwhelmed then decide not to even try. Maybe one day, but all the videos I’ve seen talk way over my head.

  17. I follow you. But I can’t figure Home Assistant out enough to get stuff to work. Yes, I have it up and running. But…. it works with on the ZB versions of my 60+ Sonoff devices. Non starter.

  18. Ahh, I just loaded Home Assistant and doesn’t work with Ecobee for new people anymore, AND the Ecovacs Deebot integration won’t connect. So those are broken. Also, it Doesn’t connect to my Cync smart lights and switches either, or my Treatlife smart switches, or my Emporia Vue or GE Washer?dryer combo, or. I have to have the option for HACS, and I don’t have that with the windows install I am trying out. I’ll have to go VM, but I’m not holding my breath. Oh, and no Alexa integration without a subscription, so no go there either for me. Oh, and Linknlink needs the modbus route, I guess. AND, the Solar Forcast won’t work. I mean my Eero connected, but it doesn’t there are 4 of them. wooo. My Enphase solar system hooked up. We’ll see what it’ll let me do with that. My Rheem Heat pump water heater connected nicely. And my Ring system is connected only talking to the 4 cameras and ignoring the security base that while it talks via wifi, is also connected to all of the Z-wave devices in my house. So far only about 25% of the brands (much less actual items) I use will work, and I know 100% is impossible. My Alexas work with ALL of this stuff and do all kinds of cool things. WTF!? This Reel is pretty much a bold faced lie.

  19. Maybe all those thing work with HA but ONLY because you purchased them to work with HA. The average home that is not going to be the case.
