2 Years with my Garmin Fenix 7 Solar. The best smart watch ever 🙂 14 days battery life with all features on, and incredible display in sunny conditions. Forgot what was "all day" battery life 😀 and after that charge it at the half of the day… Because of the buttons I never used the touch screen, only specific situations with the map or writing something, and the shortcut combinations are the top feature.
battery life is the key reason
I got the garmin Instinct 2X solar because where I live, fancy devices tend to get put through the ringer and not survive very well (Think Desert, windy, sand storms, etc). Honestly it was a good buy.
I’ve found since moving to New Mexico, that I have had to rethink my engagement with technology and move to more practical, rugged solutions. So my fold 4 I got 3 years ago? i’ve replaced twice because the center keeps failing badly, neat but not well built computers? Forget them. Regular sedan style cars? No thanks. Too hard to get out, etc. So when I shape my expectations and get things more hardened, things become easier (Think ford truck with mandatory 4×4, ulefone armor 26 ultra, garmin instinct 2x solar etc).
THANK YOU for this video! I was about to get an Apple Watch Ultra but was considering Garmin. This video has solidified the choice for Garmin. Mainly bc with my old Apple Watch, I rarely checked notifications.
Had a Garmin forerunner for 8 years . Screwed up my first 50 k trail run when it froze . Nearly got me lost. Battery life was bad . Now the battery has failed and the watch face is peeling off . Told that it would be less expensive to replace then to repair . Following a gpx file never ever worked out too . Don’t listen to YT influencers also they’re paid . Do your own research.
This feels more like an ad than a review
garmin sucks. period
Bro 6 DAYSSS???? My apple watch series 5 can barely handle 12 hours from one full charge
Can I have the Apple Watch then?
Does he say what size he has?
Got tired of all the homosexual promos with apple. Returned it and bought new Gamin.
the flash light as much as it might look like a overkill like u said it can and is a very very useful future :O i mean me personally every single night when i get up to go to bathroom i use my phone flash light not to light up the whole house for that , having this watch can sort all that since i dont have to look for the phone first lol
Garmin’s HR sensor is trash compared to apple’s watches …SE , 10 or Ultra ..no matter …all apple watches are miles better at HR measurements … call conversations on Garmin are trash…the quality of the mic is trash…the other person couldn’t understand what I was saying in a quite room … I have an apple watch SE2 and a Garmin Venu 3 ….DON"T BUY GARMIN WATCHES …they are trash …this guy got paid to promote Garmin for sure … what good are all those Garmin features if the basic measurements are bollocks??
Wait so you can’t get notifications or phone calls on this model Garmin??? That’s annoying I wanted to move from my Apple Watch to this one !
Battery life alone is already a reason why I’m considering it. Me with the apple watch and my wife with her samsung watch are getting crazy about how incredible fast the battery runs out…
AWU with the Training Today app, that I paid 4 dollars for, gives me suggestions for running, cycling and swimming, so I think I just stick to it for now. Only wish they would open up the HR to third parties so I could skip the HR strap for my bike computer.
I’m in the Apple ecosystem so I just wear both, my AWS10 & FR265. For my daily use case, it’ll be my AW, it’s just a superior smartwatch, like you said being in the ecosystem, unlocking my mac, switches off the AOD on my iPhone when I’m far away and AOD back ON when I’m near, single hand double tap action, able to select which phone notification comes in to the watch and you can tell the time when notifications come in unlike Garmin (this really bothers me, especially when a bunch of notifications comes into my FR265 and I needed to tell the time). But for running I wear both. I trust my FR265 more for my running metrics and it’s GPS accuracy. AW for redundancy while running but also for it’s live actual pace which I’m not quite getting with my FR265. HR is quite comparable between the 2. I also wear both for sleep tracking, AW seems to track my sleep more accurately ie when I start to sleep but I just love the morning report on my FR265 when I wake up, always look fwd to it, and it’s fun to compare both sleep hours upon waking up. Also I switched off the touchscreen on my FR265, love the buttons. Battery is fine on the AW thanks to its fast charge, but love the FR265 for the long battery life and that you’re confident running 4-5 hours long runs in that Garmin. Been a user of the AW for 10 years since S0 and 2 years in with my FR265, loving them both for each of their strengths.
For problem #2, WorkOutDoors app solves it
Generally agree on this. But the built – in coach isn’t good. Not fun and interesting. Same-ish workouts all the time. I disabled it.
Hi, Newbie here (new to smart watches and your channel! Great work btw)
The second you clicked on the flashlight at 8:40, I actually slapped my forehead.
I almost pulled the trigger on an apple watch and this video completely woke me up from the malaise of the apple ecosystem.
Just switched to Garmin, the fitness level up from the Apple watch is insane. Forerunner 165
#1 reason why i switched to garmin. Battery
Think the Fenix 8 replaced the Fenix 7.
Garmin:
+ Battery Life / Buttons / Sensors
– Bad, bad, really bad Software / Compatibities & BT Issues
(and once you have an issue – good luck with Garmin! worst support ever)
AWatch
+ Great software / Compatibilites / Great iPhone Conection
– Touch Screen / Batteries
-> There more active sports person you are the more Garmin is yours!
It looked like the garmin has some pretty jagged lag. I wonder if that’ll get worse over time.
I use my Apple Watch to find my phone when I can’t find it that’s all it’s good for these days it dies so fast when doing any activity
Is this 42mm?
!!!!Correction. You can reply to messages
No
Garmin has the worst software known to man. It’s clunky, slow and unintuitive. I can’t not recommend it enough.
Garmin is shit. Choppy UI, seemingly cobbled together by multiple UX teams. Feels like there’s no cohesion between the different areas within the system. Navigation stutters and is not smooth, despite it being 2025. Basic functionality like downloading podcasts and music to the watch are a nightmare, feels like you have to use 3rd party solutions for everything.
The only good thing about Garmin is the battery life. I don’t know why Apple hasn’t improved on it since launch.
I have Ultra 2 and Epix Pro and went from Ultra2 to Epix just because of battery life even Ultra2 performed very well for sport activites like running, cycling and even swimming. I cannot follow anymore all the freaking batteries i have to maintain … mobile phones, car, whoop, bicycles, scooter, remote controls, mouses, keyboards …
the battery life is much needed cause sometimes i forget to check most of my devices
Nice bike!
No, but you did make a case to have both. ❤
Apple watches are for homosexuals.
I have Garmin Descent G1 and I will be switching to Apple Ultra 3. Garmin is fine but apple is more user friendly 😂.
As long as it works with Apple Health, then it’s fine.
Apple watches are excellent for urbanites, city-dwellers, white collar workers and corporate folk. When it comes to everyone else Garmin is king. Apple watches are useless in the back country. If you are backpacking, diving, climbing, hiking, boating then Garmin is the way to go. If you are a doer, get a Garmin. If you are a watcher, get an Apple watch.
I have the forerunner 55
I think the next step in competition will be Garmin adding LTE to their watches and/or Apple manages to extend the battery life in the AWU. It’ll be interesting for sure but it’s really hard to beat the Apple ecosystem.
Apple is better at "smart watch", Garmin is way better at sports related stuff. I’m also in the Apple ecosystem but use a Garmin watch. I do have an Apple Watch 0 and gen 6. But my current watch is the Fenix 6 Pro which is about 4 years old now. Still going strong and battery life is still excellent. Agree with all the points you mentioned.
idk why you would buy a new watch when you already have one. to me these are all the same and turning them into smartphone replacements do not make them more appealing
Garmin is a superior fitness and lifestyle device. That said, the biggest advantage the Apple Watch has is that it has a stand alone cellular calling feature that gives you the option of not carrying your cell phone with you. You can still make a call without your phone on your hip. If Garmin develops this ability, I would say it will mop up the floor with the Apple Watch.
Just FYI when you say worldwide, I would suggest you put which major countries do not have offline maps (e.g. India). My uncle got that watch solely due to the fact that it has offline maps. But India has no offline maps and now he repents buying it.
I do use my apple watch as my daily driver and I am happy with it. When I am training I switch to my Garmin Forerunner 965 and very happy with it since I do triathlons next to gym training.

The Garmin Fenix series is excellent overall, but for regular pool swimmers there’s a recurring issue: the barometric altimeter often fails after a few months, probably due to chlorine exposure—even with proper rinsing after each swim. This is a known problem and, as a competitive pool swimmer, it’s ultimately why I’ve had to step away from Garmin. A real pity, as Apple’s swim metrics are still far behind the Fenix (with the exception of kickboard tracking, which only Apple supports for now).
If you’re not regularly in the pool, this likely won’t affect you. I can’t speak to whether the Fenix 8 has resolved it, but I experienced failures with two separate Fenix 7 units, both replaced under warranty within a year.
At least apple admit to slowing down their own products, garbish just breaks by itself 😂😂😂
